"Once you choose hope, anything is possible." ~ Christopher Reeve

RJ is a typical six-year-old boy. He loves to laugh, make others laugh, and be your friend. He rarely sits still because he always has something to do. RJ is a master at puzzles and Lego building. If you ever need a picture of an animal, RJ is your artist - hippos are his specialty. His pictures usually include hippos drinking water from ponds, swaying palm trees, and sunny skies! While hippos will always be a favorite, his love of turtles has grown. Not just any turtle, but sea turtles. Every year when RJ visits Grandpa and Grandma Hoffman in Florida, he gets to view these large reptiles up close at the Mote Aquarium in Sarasota, Florida.
RJ has always been a very happy little boy.
This fall RJ started the first grade. He couldn’t wait to eat lunch at school, have recess and stay all day, just like his sister. RJ made so many friends in kindergarten that he looks forward to seeing everyone in the first grade.
We can’t introduce RJ without mentioning his nine-year-old sister, Shannon. Like any younger sibling, RJ follows his big sister around all day. She accepts it as best she can and loves him back. After being subjected numerous times to all three High School Musical movies, RJ has successfully transitioned Shannon from Hannah Montana and a microphone to Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and a lightsaber! They love Star Wars together. RJ can recite countless facts about characters from all six episodes. He is our little Jedi. May the Force be with him!
Like most boys his age, RJ knows what he likes, and what he doesn’t...
RJ loves the color orange, but does not love milk (even if it is diluted with so much chocolate that it shouldn’t be called milk). RJ loves three lights on in his bedroom at night, but does not love toothpaste because it is “too minty.” RJ loves the thought of snacks on an hourly basis, but does not love getting his hair cut. RJ loves anything to do with animals, but does not love swimming lessons. RJ loves cheeseburgers, but does not love smiling for pictures. RJ loves to give hugs, but does not love shopping at Jo-Ann Fabrics! RJ loves anything his Dad does!
This is RJ, our beautiful, typical six-year-old son.
What is not typical about RJ is that in 2008 he was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. His life has been forever changed and our family forever altered. Our journey of hope, faith and love has begun. We will never lose hope that a treatment and cure will be found in time to help RJ.
We believe RJ is going to make a difference in people’s lives and we want to make a difference in his life. RJ deserves an opportunity to achieve all his dreams!
Please pray for RJ and our family and unite with us as we RALLY4RJ! Thank you so much for your love, support, and prayers.
God Bless,
